And in less than a month, I was back in the capital. Though this specific trip was real quick, glad I was able to try two great restaurants (plus, two awesome chill spots) in the metro within the overnight trip. Deplaning at around 1:40PM from our Cebu to Manila flight, we quickly checked in at our beautiful home for a night – a suite at Discovery Primea Makati, then headed to Legaspi Village for lunch. I was traveling with the contingents from Cebu attending the PLDT‘s top secret launch ; the bunch included celebrity Jude Bacalso, fellow blogger Carlo Andrew Arellano, our boss April Rama and myself. Jude’s foodie friend Iya Quintaña highly recommended this Asian fusion restaurant in Esteban Street called “Your Local.”
The restaurant is just beside Yardstick, the coffee shop I was buzzing about when I was in Manila three weeks ago. The subway-tiled walls, semi industrial look with accents of wood and metal –Your Local is undeniably an instagram-worthy restaurant. The dimmed lights set the mood for a good conversation with friends or a romantic meal with your special someone, but is a setback for instagrammers. Hey, nothing VSCo can’t fix, right? ^_^
To those who isn’t familiar with Asian Fusion, it is a technique of combining components from two or more Asian cuisines (or components of Asian cuisines with other non-asian cuisines) inventing a creative, ingenious new dish. Your Local makes delicious dishes out of intertwining flavors from Japan, Korea, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Middle East; and some dishes a mix of Asian flavors with non-asian ones.
The Food
Feel Good Chicken gives an Asian spin to this American-favorite fried wings. Prawn paste chicken wings with maple cream cheese on the side. Interestingly, the dish starts with a savory seafood crunch, much like that of a Calamari crunch zapped up with prawn paste then to a dry chicken meat bite. I suggest to give the chicken meat a slide on the maple cream cheese to cure the meat’s dryness. Tastes goood!
Torched Salmon Donburi. Torched medium-cooked Norwegian salmon, mentaiko, oboro, ebiko and shitake black rice. This one is my favorite! Scooping in on the salmon and shitake rice, the initial taste of light pepper and hint of saltiness from the roe hit the palate; and moving your tongue around, the silky salmon starts to melt which then mixes with the grainy texture of the rice. Yum!
Not a fan of Asian Fusion but “Your Local” made me appreciate it! It was indeed “A New Day!” 😉
Your Local is open from Mondays to Saturdays at these times: 11AM to 2PM and 6PM to 10PM and on Sundays from 10AM to 3PM.
