The recent hectic calendar was calling for a me-time, a recluse. This reminded me of a similar break three years ago, when I hopped on a plane to Bacolod without any pre-planned itinerary for a breather – only bringing with me a backpack stuffed with clothes good for a three-day jaunt, wallet, phone, round-trip plane tickets and hotel reservation I booked on that same day.
This year, I took a similar lull seclusion for my birthday. Eve of my natal day, I checked-in at Crimson Resort and Spa Mactan and availed of the 3-day Wellness Journey – a wellness package designed to provide a relaxing retreat with a delightfully comfortable stay at the private pool villa, rejuvenating therapies and solution based treatments at the resort’s acclaimed Aum Spa and tasty, healthy, well-rounded delectable meals during the stay. It was the perfect birthday hideaway and what I exactly needed.
Social animals as we are, some might find the idea of solo staycationing boring – but when you get to try and experience vacationing with only you and yourself, you’d discover that it’s authentically relaxing, and enlightening (can you hear the angels singing? hahaha) . However if you decide on doing this, you do not simply just roll in bed the whole time. Do some worthwhile activities that will help you discover yourself more and do exercises to energize your soul and passion. So what are fun things to do when going on a solitary rest?
Here are eleven (11) awesome suggestions of fun things to do to when you are on a solo retreat.
- Take a very long soak in the tub!
Fill the tub with hot water, pour in the bath salt and the bubble bath. Tune in to your favorite Spotify playlist and take that looooong uninterrupted soak! <3
- Read a book
Spend a day reading a book you’ve been itching to crash off your personal list of must-reads!
- Spend a day at the spa
Taking on the steam room solo might be the best way to go anyways. 😉
- Catch up on your series
Prepare the chips and the dip, it’s going to be a long day!
- Watch the saddest, melancholic movie you have in your movie library.
Cry as much as you want, no one is watching! Make sure to bring out the tissue and ice cream to help you bounce back to your perky self.
- Take as many selfies/OOTDs as you can
Take as many selfies or OOTDs as you can – while laying in your sheets, rolling in the living room carpet or making funny faces as you are plopped down comfortably in the sofa. Or maybe take a few of those confident sexy bathroom mirror shots? teehee
- Try your luck on art
Try doodling or practicing on your lettering skills. Or commit on enhancing your watercolor skills maybe? The crummy ones you can roll into balls and throw ’em in the trash to practice your basketball shooting skills. Aha! 😛
- Test your mind
Solve crossword puzzles, Sudoku or a Rubik’s cube.
You don’t have to know the names of the constellation to appreciate those tiny little sparkles in the sky. Staring at the stars somehow makes us dream.
Ask yourself out to a dinner date. You know that you’ll get a YES to that invitation. haha!
Order the bestseller or the most interesting thing on the menu. Then when your order arrives, take a snap and then resist the urge of using your mobile phone while you are still on a date with yourself. LOL
- Blueprints for your plans
Whatever project you’ve been putting on, try finishing your action plans and be sure to jot them on a paper. Or maybe spare some time updating your CV or your portfolio.
